Nat Draper – Myotherapist and Doctor of Chinese Medicine

Natalie has been a practicing Myotherapist for 10 years. Her initial interest in this field was through the love of exercise, health and fitness. She enjoys treating a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions, most commonly treating spinal complaints. Natalie has also completed a Bachelor of Health Science in Chinese Medicine, specializing in both acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.

The two separate therapies allow a unique fusion of Eastern and Western principles. Most treatments will incorporate principles and modalities from both paradigms to achieve optimum results.

The initial consultation

The initial consultation involves a comprehensive medical history and a thorough physical assessment in order to determine the best treatment plan suited to the individual. A person’s lifestyle and diet will be addressed as well as tongue and pulse diagnosis which is a primary diagnostic tool in Chinese medicine. Vitamins and supplements may also be recommended.

Myotherapy specializes in the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions that cause pain or stiffness and reduced range of movement. These symptoms can be caused by trauma, emotional states, degenerative change, poor posture, muscular imbalances, misuse and overuse. Treatment is aimed at increasing movement and mobility, improving healing time of injured tissue, and reducing pain by restoring normal integrity of soft tissue.

Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis and treatment is very different from Western Medicine. A holistic approach is adopted; this incorporates assessment of all internal systems including physical and emotional state, diet, exercise, poor heath, nervous system, life-style and environmental factors. A diagnosis and treatment plan is then devised to help the body restore its natural balance. TCM focuses as much on prevention of illness as it does on the present treatment. Diet, lifestyle, exercise, stress levels and amount of sleep all impact our health, so if we can learn to create healthy habits and a balanced lifestyle, ill health is far less common.
